Preparing for a haircut

Haircuts are not always fun for children as the unfamiliarity can be overwhelming. If its a first ever haircut in a salon there’s a new environment, a stranger who will cut their hair and your child has no idea how long the haircut will take. Even after the first visit, you may find that your child dislikes the buzz of the clippers, fears scissors near their head or they may dislike having their hair touched.

The stylists at Noah’s Ark are experienced with both the common and unusual fears and behaviours which many children experience. Katrina shares her helpful hints as to best prepare your child for their visit to the salon.

Consultations help us make the the most of your visit

Before you visit…

  • Complete the consultation form we send you so we can tailor your booking and understand any concerns you may have before you arrive
  • If you think it would help, arrange a visit so your child can familiarise themselves with the salon.
  • If it’s a first salon haircut, take away the mystery by reading storybooks about getting haircuts or through play, giving pretend haircuts to each other.
  • You can try getting your hair cut first and bring your child with you to watch
  • Schedule an appointment at a time of day your child is most calm – we can help by recommending a time when the children’s salon is quieter if this helps.
  • Consider what type of hairstyle may best benefit your child’s circumstances, e.g. a ‘buzz cut’ with clippers may be best suited than one that involves scissors.
  • Arrive in plenty of time for your appointment. Traffic delays, difficulties in parking (especially on market days!) can lead to stressed parents and late arrivals.

Once you’ve arrived at the salon, Katrina suggests…

  • Keep your child focused on something else by bringing a preferred toy, book or video to watch. We also have items available to share including tablets, TV and toys.
  • Your child can sit in your lap if needed – let us know what you think will work best
  • If the noise of the scissors or clippers bothers your child, speak to us about this – we don’t have to use both.
  • A private room is available if it helps to be apart from other families in Noah’s Ark and we can provide covers for the mirror on request.

Create a routine by visiting the same stylist on a regular basis

After the haircut:

  • Bring another top that your child can change into after their haircut – tiny hair remnants around the neckline can make someone itch like crazy!
  • Create a routine by visiting the same stylist on a regular basis.  The familiarity and consistency will help build a greater level of trust and help to alleviate those fears.
  • Provide a reward directly after the haircut. We provide tasty treats for our youngest clients, but you could follow up the haircut with a trip to the playground, a visit to the grandparents or something else that they would love

It’s worth remembering that every child’s behaviour whilst having a haircut differs. We hope our suggestions help make your child’s next haircut less stressful or scary.

Online booking help

We’ve searched high and low for a booking system that works for families…. but we couldn’t find the perfect solution. So here are our tips and tricks when booking multiple appointments for families.

When accounts share a mobile number

When you log in, the system will show the account with the shared mobile number that has the most recent booking. Or if you’re creating a new account, the first booking will be associated with the name you create the account with.

When this happens how do you book for someone else?

Booking when the account shows the contact details of another member of your family

If you login and the client is another member of your family, you should amend the booking when you reach the Enter your details screen. Simply click ‘booking for someone else’ and enter the details of the person you are booking for.

What about when I want to book appointments for multiple members of my family?

When booking more than one appointment, for multiple members of the same family, you need to create separate bookings (otherwise all the services are booked under one client).

Book the first service, attached to the individual who is requesting the service.

When you have completed the booking, restart the booking process. Select the next service you wish to book. When you reach the Enter your details screen. Simply click ‘booking for someone else’ and enter the details of the person you are booking for.

Repeat this process until all the bookings are made ? .

If all else fails, please contact the salon on 01706 217129 and we’ll be able to help.

Colour responsible salon

Its been widely reported in the media that people who’ve tested positive for coronavirus have a stronger sensitivity to hair colour than they did previously.

While millions of people have their hair coloured every year without any problems, a small number of people can have a severe allergic reaction to some of the ingredients in hair colour in the same way that some people are allergic to certain foods.

Salon manager Charlotte explains “Within the hair & beauty industry, there has been an increase in cases where clients who had tested positive for Covid-19 have had a strong sensitivity to colour that previously they were absolutely fine with.

“For this reason, we have taken the decision that all colour service clients require a further skin test when we reopen to check that they have not built up an unknown sensitivity”.

Skin testing is not new to us, we already are a colour responsible salon and follow industry guidelines for colour services.

Colour consultations can be booked in advance of your colour and take approximately 10 minutes and will be provided as part of any bookings for colour services. Clients with any questions should contact the salon on 01706217129 or email info@antonyandpatricia.co.uk.

Reopening & Appointment Bookings

Following the announcement for a planned withdrawal from lockdown, we are feeling hopeful to reopen on 12 April ?.

As this date isn’t set in stone, we wanted to share with you how we are managing our appointment book.

When can I book an appointment?

Whilst we appreciate that many of you want to get that lockdown hair sorted, we are waiting for a definite reopening date from Boris before taking any bookings – it’s a big job to reorganise all the bookings should we not open on the 12th of April.

How we will prioritise appointments?

As before, clients with cancelled appointments due to the lockdown will be booked in first and given a few days to make any changes. Clients do not need to contact us, you will receive an SMS or email with all the details.

A few days later we will open our appointment book to everyone else with a new and improved online booking tool. If you want to be notified when we will be taking bookings, subscribe to our emails.

Is there a waitlist?

During the lockdown, we’ve put in place a new salon booking system, so no waitlist is needed this time around! Clients will be able to book all our services online and set up their own accounts to manage their appointments.

Keep in touch

As we get closer to reopening, stay up to date by subscribing to our email or text updates – simply complete the form below.

If you do have any questions whilst the salon is still closed, please contact us by email where possible or reach out to us via Facebook. Of course, we are available on 01706 217129, but it’s preferable if you can contact us online where possible.

Take care and we looking forward to seeing you soon.
