NHS Test and Trace

Check-in with the new Test & Trace app

The NHS COVID-19 app will launch on Thursday 24 September and hairdressers like ourselves are supporting this new technology by displaying NHS QR code posters in salons.

Customers who have downloaded the new NHS COVID-19 app can use their smartphones to easily check-in when they visit the salon.

We already comply with the regulations to record visitors to the salon for the purpose of Test and Trace which allows the NHS to contact customers with public health advice should there be a COVID-19 outbreak.

How it works

The salon’s QR code will be displayed on entry to the salon, at each styling station and at the reception to make it easy for you to check-in when you arrive.

The salon information will be logged on your phone for 21 days and if during that time a coronavirus outbreak is identified at a location, you may get an alert with advice on what to do based on the level of risk.

The UK government advises that the QR system is a free, easy and privacy-preserving way to check-in customers to venues and is available from your app store.

We will continue to take the required information for Test and Trace for customers who do not wish to use the app. If you have any questions about how we protect your privacy, store your personal data and what information we hold about you please read our privacy statement.

Children overcome their fear of haircuts at Noah’s Ark

Some children find a trip to the hair salon scary and those with sensory issues or on the Autism spectrum can really struggle. We know its not much fun for parents either, many find it a stressful time.

We’re used to the tears, hysterics, and struggles, it’s what inspired the creation of Noah’s Ark, which also includes a sensory room ‘The Lifeboat’.

Our team of stylists are super friendly and will help your children overcome their fears to make the visit to the hairdressers more calm and positive. We take our time to work with your child and build trust.

Everyone is welcome to come and visit before their first appointment, say hello and take a look around. It helps us if you can call us before you visit so we can make sure one of our team is available to meet with you.

We recommend to use the sensory room, you book in advance as we do get really busy.

Antony & Patricia celebrates 50 years in business

Source: Rossendale Free Press

A sparkling Sixties-style celebration to mark a business’s 50th anniversary raised more than £4,000 for three good causes.

It was in 1969 when Tony Winder and his then-wife Patricia opened Antony and Patricia’s Hair Salon in Rawtenstall, initially in premises on Newchurch Road.

Many visitors attending the celebration at The Whitaker, in Rawtenstall, entered into the spirit by dressing in 60s style clothing. More than 150 guests included actor Jane Horrocks, originally from Rossendale.

Horrocks, best known for Little Voice and her character Bubbles in Absolutely Fabulous, recounted her days modelling in one of Tony’s hair shows as a punk. Describing the salon as like a home from home, she said: I have very fond memories.

My mum also modelled in the shows and Tony would always do a demonstration of every generation of hair. To have a punk hairstyle in the show was fantastic for the Valley.

Antony & Patricia moved to the former laundrette premises in Bank Street in 1972 and the business has never stopped evolving, opening Bosun’s Barbers on the upper deck in 2016 and the hugely successful Noah’s Ark Children’s Salon in 2018.

Bosun’s Barbers arrives in port

We’ve gone back to our roots and opened a traditional barbershop located on the upper deck of Antony and Patricia. It reflects the history of our Director Tony Winder when in 1967 he went to sea as a cruise ship’s barber initially on the SS Southern Cross then SS Oriana when he circumnavigated the globe several times.

Tony sailed through the Panama Canal, got to be in Tonga on Independence Day, visited New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and all over the South Pacific & the Caribbean. Following on from this amazing experience he was ship’s barber on aircraft carrier HMS Eagle and HMS Raleigh and also spent two seasons as a camp barber at Butlins in Filey and Minehead.

The barbershop opening also marks 47 in business. Since completing his training in 1962, Tony has been collecting barbershop memorabilia and his artefacts are finally on display inside Bosuns.

Come aboard and experience the nautical theme authentic ship’s windows converted into mirrors and lighting fixtures also originate from a ship. Relax into authentic barber chairs that are nearly 80 years old, which have been renovated and stripped down to the last nut and bolt. Outside the salon and barbershop, we have installed a renovated rare 1966 Dexter’s barber’s pole.

When we opened A&P in 1969 the barbershop and ladies hairdressers were separate, then in the late 70s unisex was the vogue and men and women would have their haircut, permed and highlighted sitting side by side. Returning to 2016, the beard and barbershop have seen a revival we’re pleased that the salon is going back to its roots and separating the two.

Carly Nicholas is an experienced barber who recently joined the team to oversee the barbershop and as expected she is excited to be barbering in such a unique salon. She brings with her over 11 years of ladies and gentlemen’s hairdressing skills, the latter four years working solely as a barber.
